Our People

Vanessa Bennett, Founder

I grew up in Rye, NY where I swam, played soccer, basketball, tennis and softball from an early age. In high school, with the encouragement of great coaches, I learned to play two new sports: lacrosse and ice hockey; and as an adult, I have twice completed the NYC Half Marathon. I went to Camp Walden in Denmark, ME and received a BA in American Studies from Wellesley College. Those experiences taught me the power of all-female environments in building girls’ self-confidence. I live in New York City with my husband and four children. While I found many athletic options to meet my sons’ needs, there were a lack of opportunities for my daughter to experience physical activity in the joyful, encouraging way she likes to learn. This inspired me to start Dynamo Girl and provide girls the unique environment that builds their sports skills and their self-esteem.

A couple of things you may not know about me: I can wiggle my ears and can swim the entire length of a pool without taking a breath!

Nailah Waterfield, Coach

I grew up in Long Beach, California where I played every sport my parents would sign me up for. As I got older I truly fell in love with soccer and volleyball and they became my two main sports. I was eventually recruited to play volleyball at Duke University where I was a two time captain and ACC Champion. I believe a healthy relationship with exercise and sport is the best way to teach young girls to love their bodies. I Currently work for Excel Sports Management, in the basketball department as the Executive Assistant to our President. It is my first year in NYC and I am so excited to take on this place! A Couple Facts you may not know about me: I LOVE to eat. Looking forward to trying every single NYC restaurant there is.

Jeanie Schindler, Head Coach/Curriculum Developer

I grew up in Pomona, NY and earned a B.S. in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland. I taught Physical Education and coached in New Jersey for 10 years and still work as the director of a day camp in Croton, NY during the summer. I have always loved playing sports and being part of a team. I found my voice when I was on the field: I grew up swimming, running track and playing basketball. In high school, soccer and lacrosse became my passions and I played those sports through college. I completed the NYC Marathon in 2010, four months after giving birth to my second son. Last year, I discovered the insanity of the Spartan race and I am hooked. My goal is to give girls positive experiences and the confidence for each girl to “find her voice.”

Fun fact you might not know about me: I cannot stay awake in a movie theater.

Mary Pat Draddy, LMSW, Outreach Director

For as long as I can remember, I've been playing sports. In elementary school in Rye, NY, I played softball and golf, and I swam for a swim team and danced. Later as a teenager, I switched to field hockey, basketball and lacrosse. The teamwork and inner strength that I learned playing on those teams have been influential in every work-setting I have ever encountered. I earned at BA in History from Loyola College of Maryland and a MSW in Clinical Social Work from NYU. I live in New York City with my two children, two dogs and my husband. I have run a marathon and several half marathons ,but have recently switched my athletic endeavors to pilates and tennis. Something you may not know about me: I took water ballet as a kid and have been known to break out a routine with childhood friends, much to the dismay of my children.
